The Yellowbar Angelfish is a stunning and graceful reef fish commonly seen in Thailand’s Andaman Sea. Its deep blue body and bold yellow patch create a vivid contrast that fascinates divers and photographers alike. Found around coral reefs at sites such as the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, and Richelieu Rock, this species brings vibrant color to the underwater landscape.
Juveniles differ greatly from adults, showing white curved lines across a blue body. As they grow, these lines fade and the signature yellow patch appears. The Yellowbar Angelfish prefers coral-rich areas between 5 and 40 meters deep, often swimming alone or in pairs.
Feeding mainly on sponges and algae, it helps maintain a healthy reef ecosystem. During breeding season, pairs release eggs into open water, where the larvae drift before settling on the reef.
Underwater photographers love capturing this elegant fish, though its shy nature demands patience and care. While not endangered, the Yellowbar Angelfish depends on thriving coral reefs. Protecting these habitats from pollution and bleaching ensures that divers will continue to admire this remarkable fish for generations to come—a true treasure of Thailand’s tropical waters.
